California diversity law requiring corporate boards to have minority and LGBT members ruled unconstitutional – twitchy.com

It was way back in 2018 when Twitchy did a post on the California legislature passing a bill that would require that the boards of publicly traded companies include a “woman”; remember, this was back in 2018 when you didn’t need a biologist to determine what a woman was.

We’d kind of lost track of that story, but apparently, California went even further and passed a diversity law requiring that corporate boards include at least one minority member and one LGBT member. We’re learning from the AP’s Zeke Miller that the law has been declared unconstitutional, as any sane person could have told you.

CBS Los Angeles reports:

A Los Angeles judge ruled Friday that California’s landmark law mandating that corporations diversify their boards with members from certain racial, ethnic or LGBT groups is unconstitutional.

The brief ruling granted summary judgment to Judicial Watch, a conservative legal group that sought a permanent injunction against the measure that was signed into law last year. The ruling didn’t explain the judge’s reasoning.

The measure requires corporate boards of publicly traded companies with a main executive office in California to have a member from an “underrepresented community,” including LGBT, Black, Latino, Asian, Native American or Pacific Islander.

Hooray Judicial Watch!

Finally some sanity!

As well as it should be.

Of course it’s unconstitutional.

It’s full on endorsing discriminatory hiring practices that violate civil rights law.

I’m as liberal as one can get, but I don’t think private companies are as subject to diversity laws as are public institutions. Correct me if I’m wrong.

Market economics should not be ruled with governmental red tape. In order for companies to be profitable, they must hire the best people. Having their hands tied by governmental regulations will lead companies to chapter 11.

As if woke California corporations aren’t already trying to diversify their boards. We just wonder how California was going to police this law — where’s your LGBT board member?
